Not OK to smoke pot with baby in Utero, but OK to Kill
A good friend of mine has a daughter who is in her early 20′s, who has been in and out of addiction. This year the daughter got pregnant and really wanted the baby. She wanted to be a mom. The baby was born healthy. But they discovered trace levels of THC and another downer in the baby’s bloodstream. The doctors said the THC (Pot) could have been smoked up to a month prior to the birth because THC was not in the mom’s system.
While the mother was breast-feeding the one-day-old baby, a nurse came in to weigh the baby. Taking the baby from her mother’s nipple, the nurse walked out of the room and didn’t come back. She was sent there by the Children’s Aid Society who took the baby away. The mother has not seen the baby since, which tore her apart.
This is a very sad story and it makes me wonder about the best solution. But my question is this. Why is it a punishable offense to smoke pot and take a downer while you have a baby in utero, and yet it is perfectly legal to stick a pellet rifle into your uterus and shoot the baby in the head two days before it’s born, which happened in 1996 and was upheld as legal by the Supreme Court of Canada in 1999?
The Supreme Court judges went to school for 10 years and practiced law for 30 years to learn this advanced logic.
