My visit to the Gay Pride parade
I just got back from holding a sign at the gay pride parade.
“Same sex messed me up… the Truth set me free”
I got on the island of Elgin Street near the Arts Centre. I was all alone on the edge of the island facing the parade as it came by. The entire parade and everybody following it went right by me. The sign made quite a splash and tons of people took photos and movies and film crews did the same.
Most people in the march just read the sign out loud, before they realized what it was about, then their laughs stopped and they got kind of quiet. I got almost no hate speech, some people were like “That’s OK everybody is welcome.” One Lesbian came up to me and tried to hug me and said “I hope you come back.” People were laughing and dancing, and then I saw them squinting to see my sign, and the laughing often stopped and there was a sober comment made to someone beside them.
The AIDS truck went by, they were dancing but some really changed when they saw me, it’s like they stopped dancing, and read “Same sex messed me up…” which took on a very profound meaning in that context. I could feel their pain. One guy yelled, but the float was already long past me, and I couldn’t hear him. I pray for them.
As I was driving home with my 3’ x 2’ sign on my back riding down Elgin street. A Christian church group followed me in the car and said “That’s awesome, can we talk…” so I told them my story… they were out preaching and they were yelled at a lot more than me … I guess not “everybody” is welcome, like the person told me.
They claim 35,000 people attend. I have quite a bit of experience at judging crowd sizes because of the March for Life. There was not more than 5,000. The March for Life in Ottawa with 12,000 last year was over twice the size.

David,
You are a beacon of God’s light for so many who are in such a dark place, not just for homosexuals, but for all those who struggle with their sins. I sense your deliverance could not have been easy for you, but praise Jesus that by His power, we can overcome ALL our weaknesses. May He bless and keep you –thank you for adding to my faith by your wonderful story. In His name, Jan

You have been blessed with courage and the wonderful gift of God’s love to have the profound desire in your heart to go out and carry that sign in public, especially at the Gay Pride parade. Praise be to Jesus who has redeemed your soul and brought you back to Life. God’s love is shining from your heart each time you strive to bring a lost soul back to Him. I pray along with you for “Live, Ottawa age 18″, the guy that posted his comments to you on your blog. May he discover the joy and peace that you have discovered in Jesus after leaving the gay community.
united prayer, David.
